Why does the minute matter?
Your dasha sequence starts from the balance of your Moon’s birth nakshatra already elapsed at birth, so it depends on the Moon’s exact position. Which planet’s period comes first almost never changes with the birth time — but the exact start and end dates can shift by up to about half a day if we have to substitute local solar noon for an unknown time.

What is a Vimshottari dasha?
Vimshottari is the most widely used Jyotish system for timing: a 120-year cycle divided among the nine grahas (planets and lunar nodes), each getting one mahadasha, or "great period" — Ketu 7 years, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19 and Mercury 17. Which planet opens your personal cycle is fixed by your Moon's nakshatra at birth.
What is an antardasha?
Each mahadasha is itself divided into nine sub-periods (antardashas) in the same order and the same proportions, one for each of the nine lords. An antardasha refines the mahadasha's general theme with a second lord's character for a shorter, more specific window.
Does my dasha sequence change if I get my birth time wrong?
The order of the nine mahadashas is fixed by which nakshatra your Moon was in at birth, and the Moon only changes nakshatra roughly once a day — so an inexact birth time almost never changes the sequence itself. What does shift is the exact start and end dates, which depend on precisely how far through that nakshatra the Moon had travelled.
Why does this go further than "years remaining"?
Knowing you have "3 years left" in a period is much less useful than knowing it ends on a specific date, with a specific period after it. This calculator computes absolute, contiguous dates for the full 120-year cycle rather than a countdown, because the dates are what let you actually plan around a transition.
