- Sade Sati (literally "seven and a half") is the roughly 7.5-year stretch when Saturn transits three signs relative to your natal Moon: the sign before it, the sign it's in, and the sign after — about two and a half years each, following Saturn's own roughly 29.5-year cycle through the zodiac.
- Is Sade Sati always a bad period?
- No. It is a Saturn transit — traditionally read as a period that asks for structure, patience and sustained effort, the same as any other Saturn period in the chart. Framing it as guaranteed hardship is common in popular astrology writing, but it is not this tool's view, and it is not medical, financial or legal advice either way.
- Why do the start and end dates have a margin of error?
- Saturn moves backward (retrograde) for part of most years, which can shift the exact day it crosses a sign boundary, and can occasionally move it back out of a sign it only just entered before it crosses again. This tool searches the real planetary positions for the nearest crossings rather than guessing from an average speed, but it still reports the dates as an estimate rather than pretending to second-level precision the underlying transit doesn't have.
- Does my birth time need to be exact?
- Less than you might expect. Sade Sati depends on your Moon sign, not your exact nakshatra degree, and the Moon spends over two days in each sign — so an approximate time (we substitute local solar noon if you don't know it) is almost always enough.
