Terms of service

Last updated 20 September 2026.

Jataka computes a Vedic astrology chart from a birth date, time and place, and uses an AI model to turn that chart into written readings. By using this site you agree to the terms below. They are short, because the product is small, it is run by one person rather than a company, and the promises made here are deliberately narrow.

Entertainment and reflection, not advice

Everything Jataka produces — every calculator result, every AI-generated reading, every reference page — is offered for general interest, entertainment and personal reflection. It is not medical, financial or legal advice, and it does not diagnose, predict or guarantee any outcome. If you need medical, financial or legal help, please talk to a qualified professional. No content on this site should be used as a substitute for that.

Readings are written by an AI model from your chart alone and are labelled as AI-generated wherever they appear. The model can be wrong, generic, or occasionally produce a reading that a knowledgeable astrologer would disagree with; we work to keep that rare, but we do not warrant that any reading is astrologically correct, complete, or fit for any particular purpose.

A free, non-commercial product

Jataka is currently free to use, with no account required, no paywall, no advertising and no affiliate links. We may offer optional features in the future — the privacy policy describes what would change if that happens. Anyone using the product before that point keeps today’s feature set free.

Because the product is free, it is also provided “as is,” without a warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be available at all times, uninterrupted, or free of errors.

Availability and quota

Readings are generated using a metered, free tier of a third-party AI provider. On a busy day, that capacity can run out before it resets, and reading generation may be queued, delayed or temporarily unavailable as a result. Your chart and any readings you already have stay on your own device regardless — a quota limit affects generating a new reading, never what you already have.

Searching for a birth place also depends on a third party: your browser asks a mapping provider to turn the place name you type into coordinates. If that provider is unreachable or its own daily allowance is spent, finding a birth place will not work until it recovers. Once a place is resolved, everything after it — the chart itself, every calculator — runs on your own device and needs no network at all.

Age

Jataka is intended for people aged 16 or over (13 or over where locally permitted). By using this site you confirm you meet that requirement.

Acceptable use

Please do not attempt to automate, scrape or otherwise bulk-extract readings from this product, circumvent its rate limits, or use it to generate content that is unlawful, harassing, or intended to mislead someone about a real person. Because the AI capacity this product runs on is shared and metered, misuse by one visitor can make the product briefly unavailable for everyone else.

Your data

What we collect, what is sent to generate a reading, and what is never collected at all is described in full in the privacy policy and the method page. In short: your birth date and time are used to compute your chart in your own browser and never leave this device. The one thing about a birth that travels is the place name you type, which your browser sends directly to a mapping provider to get coordinates — never through a server of ours, and never with a date, a time or a name attached.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Jataka after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Jataka and the person who runs it are not liable for any decision you make on the basis of a reading, calculator result, or any other content on this site. Use it for what it is: a reflection tool, not a source of instructions.

Who you are agreeing with, and governing law

Jataka is run by one person, Jayathri Ranasinghe, based in Sri Lanka. It is not a company: there is no registered entity behind it, no company number and no registered office, and nothing on this site should be read as implying otherwise. These terms are an agreement between you and that individual. The plural “we” used elsewhere on this site is a habit of tone, not a claim about who is on the other side of it.

These terms, and any dispute about them or about your use of Jataka, are governed by the law of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Sri Lanka have jurisdiction over them. Jataka is reachable from anywhere, and many of the people who use it are not in Sri Lanka. Where the consumer-protection law of the country you live in gives you rights that cannot be signed away by a clause like this one, that law still applies to you and nothing here is intended to remove it.

Contact

For anything about these terms or about the product, email hello@jataka.app. For privacy questions, and for a request to see, correct or delete data, use privacy@jataka.app instead — the privacy policy explains what we do and do not hold, which is very little. Both addresses reach the same one person, so a reply takes days rather than minutes.
