The 27 nakshatras, from Ashwini to Revati
A nakshatra is one of 27 equal divisions of the sidereal zodiac, each spanning 13°20′ — the distance the Moon covers in roughly one day, which is why the whole cycle takes about 27.3 days, a sidereal lunar month. Jyotish treats the nakshatra your Moon occupies at birth (your janma nakshatra) as one of the most specific and personally revealing placements in the chart — considerably more granular than the twelve rashis, since each rashi contains just over two nakshatras.
Each nakshatra has a ruling planet (its Vimshottari dasha lord), a deity and symbol drawn from Vedic myth, and four padas — quarters of 3°20′ each — that add further texture. The pages below cover all 27 in full; each links to the one before and after it in the wheel.
